Chos’chosi is an exploration into belonging, identity, land, and language: kwaXhosa. The animated 3D model, housed in our independent app created by Sisanda Tech, mimics a seated figure that grapples with ideas of fashioning, mending, and the making of Xhosa histories.
Chos’chosi is our introductory intervention that exists within Inxili, a broader cultural archive we are creating. It serves as an immersive storytelling experience using Augmented Reality to bring to life hidden histories and the untold. This is our reimagination of the archive.
Through the app, users are encouraged to engage with the 3D animated figure placing it in and around their modern spaces, complicating the hard-pressed modern ideals that would normally not host Xhosa thinking and sensibilities.
We encourage the user to share their videos, by doing so, curated images of the animation ‘in play’ in their environments nurtures a visual dialogue through social media where our users exhibit themselves and their disruptions of space and time with us and the global audience.
