The BAM Collective is a clothing brand that aims to take a spirited approach to South African luxury fashion. The label is known for its fun silhouettes, unconventional detailing and bold colourways. Garments are made to order according to customer measurements to reduce waste and ensure each piece is worn for years to come.

Resources and materials

Majority of fabrics are sourced from local wholesalers
Most garments are made using cotton or regenerated fabrics
Printing is done with eco-friendly pigments

Making and manufacturing

All products are made in-house by their tailor, Omar
Business and production, including cutting, patternmaking, marketing and accounting, is run by founder Jacques Bam
Water used in the studio is for ironing and steaming only
Machines are fitted with energy-saving adapters

Social and cultural

Most wholesalers are POC-owned
Partakes in social development, such as collaborating with ECG Clinical Wear and The Brave Hearts Project
Has assisted at local colleges like STADIO, offering guest lecturing, intern training and business incubation
Runway shows feature a diverse range of individuals, representing various races, body types, gender expressions, and ages.

Product and design

Garments are finished with binding or lining for added longevity
Details such as hook-and-eyes, buttons and snaps use rust-free metal only
Items are designed to be trans-seasonal
Waste fabric is repurposed for loops, label tags, pressing clothes, cleaning rags or ironing board covers
All purchases include free repairs and alterations for life
Samples are rented out to stylists or individuals

Packaging and distribution

Garments shipped in brown paper boxes printed with eco-paints
Boxes are personalised to encourage customers to use them as storage
Items come with free gifts such as tote bags or pouches made from end-of-roll fabrics and off-cuts
Garment labels are made from cotton
Suppliers are sourced close to the studio
