SELFI is a Cape Town-based ready-to-wear clothing brand designed with the modern woman in mind. The label focuses on using high-quality natural fibres, ensuring that all pieces are 100% biodegradable. Community is at the heart of SELFI’s mission, with the brand supporting local women and children through initiatives like those at St Anne’s Home in Woodstock, Phakama Community Centre, and Emmanuelle Children’s Centre.
Resources and materials
- All textiles used are plant-based: linen, ramie, rayon, hemp, raw silk, bull denim and cotton twill
Social and cultural
- Only collaborates with brands or artists that share core principles and brand purpose
- Has participated in several community projects, including collaborating with Future Females, donating to the Phakama Community Centre in Gugulethu, and mentoring local designers
Product and design
- Creates trans-seasonal pieces
- Unsold and unused stock is donated to Emmanuelle Children’s Centre in Atlantis
- Mock-ups and samples donated to St Anne’s Home
- Some items are made-to-order
Packaging and distribution
- Online orders are packed in reusable calico bags
- Labels are woven locally from cotton
- Tags are made from linen paper and a cotton twill string
